Group Evaluation

The first thing I would like to say is that everyone in the group had worked very hard in this group project, while some had done more than others, it does not mean people didn’t try. One thing that we all agreed to is that there are many different fun ways to raise money for a good cause, so to raise some extra money we had not one but two bake sales, and they in both the bake sales we had raised $295.70 and every single person had participated in the bake sales, by either baking goods, or sitting at the table selling things, or even by walking around going to different areas of the campus selling baked goods to students and staff members. Other then the bake sale every group member had put in individual effort in making sure the fundraiser was a success. For example Ayesha had sold 16 tickets, and had gotten $200 worth of sponsors, and she had made the raffles baskets that were given away on the day of the event. Another person who might not have been able to get a lot of money was Arifa but that does not mean she gave up. Arifa was only able to get $ 20 through donations, but she had done other things. For example she had come early to the event and with the help of Krishneel both of them had walked around the plaza and got $25 worth of donations from the shops. Other then helping out with collecting donations on the day of the event Krishneel also had sold 10 tickets. Sangeet and Gurvir had also done an amazing job because while Sangeet had sold 24 tickets and Gurvir had sold 12, and gotten $150 in donations. On the day of the event both of them had stayed outside till 10:30 pm selling tickets and making sure everyone that had bought a ticket had a stamp on their hands. Other people in the group that had worked very hard are Jot and Sukhpreet, both of them had gotten $200 worth of sponsors each, they had also sold a lot of tickets, Jot had sold 13 tickets and Sukhpreet had sold 24 tickets. The last person in the group is Saba and while she couldn’t sell any tickets she did help out with the fundraiser and she had also gotten $400 worth of donations. Another thing that I would like to point out is that while everyone had worked very hard and the fundraiser went while there were some problems that had occurred. For example since we had so many people in the group and every person and a different point of view, sometimes disagreements happened but in the end everything went well because in the end we had raised around $3745.70. 

Progress Report #3

Christmas Holiday Bakesale

Our last fundraiser was another bake sale that took place after our event. It was associated with the Christmas theme. We raised over $100. Everyone gave in their best performance for all the fundraisers. Overall we all enjoyed the project. We hope that the needy children in Ghana can also enjoy the gift of scholarships. This alternative assignment has been great for us and we are proud to be a part of it.

Progress Report #2

So we joined the other group in for our grand event called “Ghana dinner and dance.” All of us aimed to sell as many tickets as possible and get sponsors as well. We did lots of promotion on facebook and in the university itself ( through the event poster on the university’s bulletin boards). The event took place on November 16. It was declared a success because we made a profit of nearly $3350 left after paying for the hall and entertainment. Aside the issues we had with the other groups, everything went smoothly. A week earlier we did a small fundraiser of a bake sale at the university. It was associated with the Halloween theme. From that, we raised $150. Everyone contributed equally to both fundraisers.

Progress Report #1

Halloween BakeSale && MovieNigh && Ghana Dinner and Dance 

Hello Mr. Charles Quist-Adade. I hope that you are having a great time in Ghana. This is our group’s first progress report so far.
Our message to the attendants of the events, staff members and other volunteers, who will guide and help us in any way.
“Our sociology class inspired us to create this fundraising event for deprived students in Ghana to receive scholarships for their education”
“What got us thinking was our sociology professor himself. Where he is today wouldn’t be possible without such scholarships.”
Our potential events venues; School gym or the conference centre, Arts centre or a Bear Creek Park Hall.
Types of Events; Movie Night, and a Fashion (beauty) show.
As for the first event, we will possibly host this program a weekend before Halloween and encourage the kids to come in their Halloween costumes. Our audience for the event include young kids and teens.
Our Movie Night theme is possibly going to be associated with Halloween. Thus, we will likely show a horror movie for kids. Ex. Monster Inc., Goonies, Monster House, Coralline, Corpse Bride. (Any one of them)
For our sales, we will have a concession there as well. Concession food includes Popcorn, Candies, Pop Cans, Chips, Hot Dogs, etc….. (All range to reasonable prices)
We recently found out that we cannot charge the attendants anything for this event, as we will be using the screen and the School’s conference centre or gym. Because we cannot legally charge them, we will be at the door collecting donations of the event day.
We have also taught of doing a raffle draw for many small prizes. The best prize, which will be a gift card or a movie pass, will be awarded to a boy/ or a girl with the best Halloween Costume.
Ways of Promotions: Kwantlen’s website (we will post a column about this event), Facebook (creating an event and updating on it so that we know how many people are going to attend), Posters at Kwantlen and at near Elementary schools as well. We will also set up a table in the main building a weekend before the event. This will attract people to this event, and at the same time, we will collect donations.
We still need to arrange a movie screen and a popcorn machine for this event though.
Information of our second event will be updated on the second progress report, as we are still uncertain about it.

A Little About Myself

My name is Sangeet. I am the eldest of two siblings. I have a little brother and a little sister. I graduated from Ecole Panorama Ridge Secondary 2011. Throughout high school I’ve achieved honours and still continue to do so. This is my first year at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where I am majoring in a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies for the time being. Last year I was a Student at Douglas Collage. I decided to transfer schools because KPU had more courses to enroll in. This year I’ve registered as a full time student at KPU and also have a part time job at McDonalds. My position at McDonalds is a team leader.  I’ve been working at McDonalds for almost a year now and have quickly made my ways to a position of an assistant manager. As for Sociology I am new to the subject but am very engaged in learning about the theories and perspectives of society and the concepts of human groups and their interactions. I take interest in anything that involves the outdoors, exploring, and travelling! I am very adventurous, from kayaking for 3 nights to hiking a 5Km trail of Garibaldi. I also take interest in home economics. In my last year of high school I achieved the Iron Chief trophy. Besides loving the outdoors I enjoy the accompany of kids therefore, I’m studying towards becoming an Elementary Teacher.  After this year at KPU I’m transferring to University of Victoria to finish my degree. It being from Douglas to KPU then UVIC education is my top priority but alongside my intakes of exploring follow right behind!
